What makes Ironwood different
Most schools ask a student to choose between preparing for college and preparing for a trade. Ironwood treats that as a false choice. Every student takes a core academic load alongside a chosen track, and both tracks lead to paid work-based learning before graduation.
Skilled Trades track
Electrical, HVAC, welding, and automotive pathways taught in shop settings, with hours that count toward apprenticeship requirements after graduation.
Work-based learning
Internships, apprenticeships, and co-op placements are built into the upper grades, so students enter the workforce with a real reference, not just a résumé.
College credit before you graduate
Ironwood students earn dual-enrollment credit through Austin Community College while still in high school, and qualifying students can follow a bridge pathway into the University of Texas at Austin. Choosing a trade track does not close the college door; several of our welding and HVAC students carry the heaviest dual-enrollment loads in the school.
Where the pipeline leads
Ironwood maintains relationships with Austin-area employers and college partners who host our students for work-based learning placements and accept our dual-enrollment credit.
